Plain-language summary
This bill would give several elected state officials — the State Treasurer, Auditor of Public Accounts, Secretary of State, Commissioner of Agriculture, and Attorney General — more flexibility in hiring and pay decisions. It would allow them to hire certain staff outside the standard state approval process and to raise the salaries of qualifying state employees up to a set midpoint within their pay grade. Who it may affect: state employees working under those five elected offices, and the officials themselves.
