Plain-language summary
This bill would ban local governments and law enforcement agencies in Kentucky from adopting or enforcing so-called sanctuary policies, which generally limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. If a local government or agency releases someone under a federal immigration hold because of such a policy and that person then commits a violent crime, the bill would allow victims to sue the local government or agency for damages and legal fees, removing certain legal protections those governments normally have. Who it may affect: local government officials, local law enforcement agencies, and residents of communities with existing policies limiting immigration enforcement cooperation.
