AN ACT relating to involuntary commitment.

This bill expands the list of crimes that can qualify a person for involuntary commitment by adding first-degree sexual abuse as a qualifying offense. Under current law, certain serious offenses trigger a legal process that can result in a person being committed to a mental health facility without their consent. Adding this crime to the list means individuals convicted of first-degree sexual abuse could be subject to that process.
