Plain-language summary
This bill would allow schools to keep glucagon on hand without it being prescribed to a specific student, so trained staff can use it to treat diabetic emergencies when they occur. Health care providers could prescribe glucagon directly to a school, and people who act in good faith to help a student in a diabetic crisis would be protected from lawsuits. The state health cabinet would also be required to consult the American Diabetes Association when writing rules about how schools use glucagon. Who it may affect: students with diabetes, their parents, school staff, and school administrators.
