AN ACT relating to state-operated mental health facilities.

This bill updates the law governing state-run mental health facilities by replacing outdated language and clarifying that the Cabinet for Health and Family Services is responsible for covering emergency and other medical care that patients receive outside of those facilities. In other words, if someone is a patient at a state mental health facility and needs outside medical treatment, the state's responsibility to provide care extends to that outside care as well. Who it may affect: patients currently residing in state-operated mental health facilities and their families.
