Plain-language summary
This bill would require Kentucky Medicaid to cover doula services, which are support services provided by trained companions who assist people before, during, and after childbirth. It would also create a Doula Advisory Council to help oversee how these services are provided. This means eligible Kentuckians on Medicaid could access doula support without paying out of pocket. Who it may affect: Kentuckians enrolled in Medicaid who are pregnant or recently gave birth, as well as doulas and managed care organizations that deliver Medicaid services in the state.
