Plain-language summary
This bill requires health insurance plans in Kentucky to cover mental health treatment delivered through the psychiatric collaborative care model, a team-based approach where primary care providers work alongside mental health specialists to treat patients. Starting January 1, 2026, any insurer offering coverage for mental health conditions must reimburse for services provided through this model. This could expand access to mental health care for Kentuckians who receive treatment through their primary care provider. Who it may affect: Kentuckians with mental health conditions, health insurance policyholders, and healthcare providers who offer collaborative mental health care.
