AN ACT relating to the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Commission and declaring an emergency.

Amend KRS 150.022 to require that a Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Commission member whose reappointment confirmation is declined by the Senate shall vacate his or her seat upon the date of sine die adjournment of the session in which the confirmation was declined.

In effect since March 27, 2025

This act carries an emergency clause, so it took effect as soon as it became law instead of waiting the usual 90 days after the session adjourned (Ky. Constitution § 55).

This bill changes the rules for what happens when the Kentucky Senate declines to confirm a reappointment to the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Commission. Under the new requirement, a commission member whose reappointment is rejected by the Senate must leave their seat when the legislative session officially ends. This clarifies the timeline for vacating the position rather than leaving it open-ended. Who it may affect: members of the Fish and Wildlife Resources Commission and those who hunt and fish in Kentucky.
